Today.
Risa Mickenberg : Our lives are a flood of images and we are collectors who keep a strange assortment of images: moments of extreme emotion, pain, beauty, and fear stand out. Events we're taught to remember: weddings, graduations, births, deaths. Then there are the millions of images that we can't shake out of our heads, that come to us at strange times - things we can't remember why we remember: the gold threads in an old stereo speaker, the way the light hit a thousand cars in a parking lot by the water, the face of a stranger in a restaurant, a friend standing in a pool - you can't remember where, slapping the water with the flat of her hand. Memory is a sieve that holds curious things. A life is a trail of strange, colorful memories.

On The Roller Coaster I Call Life.
sad.
to leave my kiddos at Riverview.
my friends at Riverview.
and my classroom @ Riverview.
forever.
happy.
to be home, George.
to see my family, Iowa.
and see Hayden be born.
to be with Alannah so she can have the time of her life with her aunty Am.
even if we haven't seen each other since January.
to open arms to hug it out.
even though I have not been back in a while.
forever.
excited.
to go to be in the wedding.
to be glittered and glamoured out.
to spin round and round.
to be happy with the ones I love, my family.
I love them.
forever.
The Godmama.
Not Perfect.
One thing I've been noticing about {myself} is that I'm more relaxed about all things. Less tense. Going with the flow. I suppose all that's going on and looking back at how unnecessarily hectic my life had been was just the final straw. I need peace. I need to move along smooth and the only reason I wasn't before is because I had this false notion that I had to be perfect. Dude...what a way to drive yourself to a hot mess!!!

Drip Drip Drop.
Last Night the Rain Spoke to Me
Last night
the rain
spoke to me
slowly, saying,
what joy
to come falling
out of the brisk cloud,
to be happy again
in a new way
on the earth!
That's what it said
as it dropped,
smelling of iron,
and vanished
like a dream of the ocean
into the branches
and the grass below.
Then it was over.
The sky cleared.
I was standing
under a tree.
The tree was a tree
with happy leaves,
and I was myself,
and there were stars in the sky
that were also themselves
at the moment
at which moment
my right hand
was holding my left hand
which was holding the tree
which was filled with stars
and the soft rain -
imagine! imagine!
the long and wondrous journeys
still to be ours.

Step Back.
Remind Me.
It’s a wonderful truth that of all relationships, the one between teacher and the student is truly symbiotic. On a daily basis, I learn as much from my students as I try to impart to them, and this is why I continue to teach. My motivations are selfish, and so be it. It’s still a tandem ride, this learning and teaching, and on any given day I find myself leading and following, following and leading.
I am a teacher because I love to learn, and I’ve come to realize one abiding truth: The best way to learn is to teach.
